For those who struggle with addictions and for the families and friends of those who struggle.
“Even the darkness is not dark to you;
the night is bright as the day,
for darkness is as light with you.” Psalm 139:12
The other night, we were interceding for the addicted. For the bruised and chained. It seemed that that was the prayer focus for our evening set. God pressed on our hearts and minds the faces of individuals that are lost, or lost and searching. Searching for a better way, a better life far from their addictions that keep them bound and wanting more. These addictions being any…but specifically we were praying against the addiction of drugs…with no exception to the overuse/abuse of prescription drugs in our community that stretches out into our families, our friends, and the circle of people that we interact with on a daily base. As we began to pray and intercede, I saw as clear as day, the words: An open invitation.
An open invitation.
It’s always been an open invitation. The Lord has always been waiting for the returning, for the throwing away of those broken lifestyles that keep them held hostage. The brokenness that keeps them from peace, lasting and whole peace. It’s always been an open invitation. And He will be waiting, arms open, as long as it takes because that is the heart of God.
As Long as it takes.
Jesus said, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
It’s an open invitation. He sees all of us right where we are and meets us just as we are; with nothing to prove because His love is stronger.
“You know when I sit down and when I rise up;
you discern my thoughts from afar.” Psalm 139:2
“Where shall I go from your Spirit?
Or where shall I flee from your presence?
If I ascend to heaven, you are there!
If I make my bed in Sheol, you are there!
If I take the wings of the morning
and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea,
even there your hand shall lead me,
and your right hand shall hold me.” Psalm 139:7-10
“When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars,
which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him, and the son of man that you care for him?” Psalm 8:3-4
HE CARES. The Father Cares. Till the end.
“Now before the Feast of the Passover, when Jesus knew that his hour had come to depart out of this world to the Father, having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end.” John 13:1
Just as Jesus loved his disciples to the end, So great and enduring is His love for us till the end. His love is whole and enduring; unwavering and unshakeable.
So today, we lift up those who struggle with addictions, no matter what they may be or what that looks like. Father, we lift up their brokenness and their longings. You know every longing that they have and you know every hair on their heads. We know that your love stretches to the heavens and that you overcome the world, so with YOUR help, they can overcome as well. We speak that they will step into the plans that you ordained for them before the world was made. We speak life, we speak love over them wherever they are right now. In Jesus name.
That they would, “Come taste the freedom. Come taste and see that the Lord is good. Come to the well and drink. In You there is freedom. Come taste the freedom”.
